Lesson Study, known as kenkyu jugyo, is a teaching process that includes teaching improvement, teacher collaboration and student learning. Originated in Japanese elementary schools, this process is becoming more popular, not only in elementary schools, but in high schools and in higher education.  It has become a powerful tool for teacher development in different parts of the world.

Metzger memorial to be held on Mar. 6

Janice Metzger's memorial service will be held in the Northwestern University Settlement House on Mar. 6 at 7 p.m.

In the spirit of Jan and due to the neighborhood. John Paige and Metzger's sons Tim, Andy and Chris request that attendees walk, ride a bike, or take public transportation.  Sreet parking will be limited.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to Association House of Chicago or the Center for Neighborhood Technology.

Holstein Park

Holstein Park is located at 2200 N. Oakley Ave., and their telephone number is 312.742.7554. It's most predominant feature, the fieldhouse was built in 1912 which still stands today and is scheduled for renovation sometime in 2010 or 2011.  It is a large park with an open field, perfect for ball playing.

Erhler Playlot Park

Erhler Playlot Park, located at 2230 W. Cortland St., is a small, soft, asphalt playground surrounded by lawn and trees, and is affiliated with Holstein Park.  It also includes a sandbox and an open field perfect for tossing a ball around.

Churchill Field Park

Churchill Field Park, located at 2007 W. Churchill Street is used as a junior baseball field.  There is also a green, dog-friendly area inside this park that is in development and will hopefully be completed by 2011. It will include new surface materials, solar lighting on the south wall, new landscaping and plenty of water fountains. There is also a south wall that was recently whitewashed and will soon be painted with a brand new mural.
