Symphony Sounds String Quartet

Violin 1 - Bernardo Arias is currently Associate Concertmaster of the Northwest Indiana Symphony and performs with Elgin Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is also Co-Concertmaster of Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra (a position he shares with his wife Whun Kim) and Principal Second Violin of Rockford Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he teaches at Merit School of Music and Elgin Community College. Mr. Arias received his bachelors and masters degrees from The Juilliard School where studied with Margaret Pardee and Joseph Fuchs. He also studied with Dr. Myron Kartman at Northwestern University and Mark Zinger at DePaul University

Violin 2 - Whun Kim was born in Seoul, Korea, Whun Kim began her violin studies at the age of 7 at which time she immigrated with her family to the U.S.A. She attended Northwestern University where she studied with Dr. Myron Kartman and received a Bachelor of Music degree. She also attended The Juilliard School where she studied with Joseph Fuchs and received her Master of Music degree. She also studied with Marc Zinger and Albert Igolnikov in Chicago. Ms. Kim has had coachings with Eugene Becker, Hamao Fujiwara, Fredelle Lack, Igor Ozim and William Lincer. She was a first prize winner in the Solo and Ensemble Competition of Hawaii. She also received second prize in the Society of American Musicians Competition of Illinois, was a finalist in the Chicago Symphony Youth Auditions and received the Farwell Award from the Women's Musician Club of Chicago. Ms. Kim presently teaches and performs as co-concertmaster with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra and plays in the first violin section of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra. She resides in the Chicagoland area with her husband Bernardo Arias and their two daughters, Claire and=2 0Esme.

Viola - Violist Mark Djordjevic received his Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music degrees at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. In addition to winning numerous competitions, he has maintained a rigorous performing schedule, including holding a principal viola position with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, as well as having performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2001, he was chosen to participate in the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. Presently, he is Assistant Principal Violist for the Northwest Indiana Symphony, as well as a member of the Chicago Pops20Orchestra, Lake Forest Symphony and the New Philharmonic. He teaches at the Hinsdale Center for the Arts, College of DuPage, and at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville.

Cello (Tchaikovsky and Ravel) - Nazar Dzhuryn is a native of Lviv, Ukraine. He began his cello studies at the age of six and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Lviv Music School under Mr. Evgeny Shpitzer. Mr. Dzhuryn earned his Master of Music degree from the Moscow State Conservatory under Professor Igor Gavrysh. Upon graduation, he spent 2 years at the Moscow State Conservatory as an Assistant Professor of Cello. Nazar Dzhuryn was the principal cellist of the Moscow Conservatory Symphony and the Moscow State Symphony “Young Russia”. As an active chamber musician and orchestral player, Mr. Dzhuryn appeared in concert with many classical music legends such as Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Daniel Barenboim, Mstis lav Rostropovich, Georg Solti, Boris Pergamenchikov, Hellmunt Rilling, Mark Peskanov, Rachel Barton Pine, Cyrus Forough and James Galway. He has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Chicago Chamber Musicians, and the Chicago Cello Society. Mr. Dzhuryn is currently on the music faculty at Elgin Community College and the Naperville School for the Performing Arts and serves as the assistant principal cellist of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

Cello (Bach) - Sarah Marsh founder and president of Symphony Sounds, is one of Chicago’s prominent classical music coordinators. Before embarking in the business world, Sarah established herself as a successful cellist and teacher. She was invited to participate in the Illinois Music Educator’s Association Orchestra at both the district and state levels. Sarah received the Bailey Music Scholarship and received first prize in the Musician’s Union Young Artist Scholarship Competition. Sarah performed with the Elgin Symphony for two years und er the baton of Dr. Robert Hanson. With the Elgin Symphony, she had the opportunity to perform in concert with many classical music legends such as Yo-Yo Ma and Itzak Perlman.
